 I am a 50 year old woman living with kidney failure. My renal failure was caused by a disease called P Anca Vasculitis. There was
no time to prepare for m kidney failure. In an emergency situation, they installed a Hemo Cath. 3 times a week my husband drives
me the two hour each way trip to dialysis. We did this for 5 months. I now successfully do my treatments at home with a PD cath.
The doctors say my kidneys won’t heal. I believe it is possible for my kidney function to return. My goal is to stay positive and
do everything I can to heal my mind, body. I am very grateful the home dialysis was an option for me and that it is working so
well. I appreciate the knowledge that the dietician shared with me. And by her recommendations I am working on recipes to write a
renal cookbook. This disease has changed my outlook on life. It has made me appreciate my health, me and my husband are both
benefiting from my new way of food preparation.

 This is a real life experience, even though it feels so much like a fairy tale. At times it would be so wonderful to find out that all of this is nothing but a bad dream, but with out experiencing the trials and tribulations of kidney disease I would not be who I am today. I do have to say that I would not trade my life for anyone else’s. I am happy to be who I am and am proud to be me.
